Being Nutty is Good for Your Health

Here at Shiloh Farms, we offer a large variety of organic nuts; whether you want them raw, roasted, salted, shelled, or covered in chocolate, Shiloh Farms has you covered. The health benefits of nuts are countless. Nuts are packed with protein, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and omega-3 and monounsaturated fatty acids, making them a power snack and nutritious addition to any meal. Studies have also shown that despite the high fat content in most nuts, nut eaters are on average thinner than those who rarely consume nuts. Below is a beginner’s guide to some of the various nuts offered by Shiloh Farms and their health benefits. Go nuts!

Almonds: The high content of vitamins E and B and magnesium in almonds can strengthen your immune system during times of stress. They also lessen levels of bad cholesterol and the chance of heart attack and disease.

Walnuts: Regular consumption of walnuts can reduce bad cholesterol and improve brain function. They’re also high in monounsaturated and omega-3 fatty acids. A University of Scranton, Pennsylvania study also found walnuts have by far the highest levels of antioxidants of all nuts.

Brazil Nuts: An especially good source of monounsaturated fatty acids, Brazil nuts help to lower bad cholesterol. They’re also packed with the mineral Selenium, which can prevent coronary artery disease and cancer.

Cashews: Cashews contain potassium, copper, iron, magnesium, zinc, phosphorous and selenium along with vitamins B-5, B-6, riboflavin, and thiamin. Cashews are also lower in calories than most other nuts.

Pistachios: Known to reduce bad cholesterol while increasing good cholesterol, pistachios are heart-healthy. They also prevent high blood pressure by improving blood vessel elasticity. Pistachios are rich in Vitamin B-6, Vitamin E and phosphorous, which aids glucose tolerance.
