Brrrr! It’s Cold Outside!

As we roll into the depths of the winter months, Shiloh Farms likes to remind our customers that there are benefits to the cold weather—with one being the opportunity to make Grandma’s Homestyle Split Pea Soup!

In fact, we love this recipe so much, we want all of you to have the opportunity to make it for your loved ones.  From now until March 1, 2013, we are offering 20% off all our split peas.  Make sure you stock up today – we still have a few more weeks of winter left!

Grandma’s Homestyle Split Pea Soup

2 qts. water
1 ½  c. chopped onion
1 c. diced celery
1 ½  c. thinly sliced carrots
¼ tsp. pepper
¼  tsp. garlic powder
¼  tsp. marjoram
2 tsp. parsley flakes
1 ham bone (optional)

Combine all ingredients in a large Dutch oven and bring to a boil; cover and reduce heat. Simmer for about 2 hours, or until peas are as tender as you prefer.

This soup also cooks well in a crock-pot, cooked on low for 6 to 8 hours.
