January is National Soup Month!

There is nothing better than a warm, hearty soup on a cold winter’s day.  To celebrate National Soup Month, Shiloh Farms would like to share some of our favorite healthy soup ingredients and recipes.

What’s your favorite winter-warming soup?

  • Lentils -With 30% of the calories in lentils coming from protein, lentils are the third-highest level of protein of any legume or nut—just after soybeans and hemp.  The lentil family ranges in color from brown to pink to black and green; all offering different health benefits and taste to any dish.  Our favorite winter warmer is our Lentil Chicken Stew
  • Long Grain Brown Rice is unmilled leaving it as a whole, natural grain.   It is higher in fiber, vitamins and minerals than milled or white rice.   It also acts as a great natural thickener in soups! Check out our Deluxe Vegetable Soup.
  • Hulled Barley, also known as barley groats, is the whole grain form of barley with only the outermost hull removed.  In addition to its nutty, pronounced flavor, hulled barley is a very good source of fiber.  Our Vegetarian Barley and Bean Soup will satisfy everyone at the dinner table!
